Mayor's son dies in collision on Parks

FAIRBANKS -- The 15-year-old son of Nenana's mayor was killed when the snowmobile he was riding collided with a vehicle on the Parks Highway.

Alaska State Troopers say Josh Mayrand, the son of Mayor Jason Mayrand, was struck Oct. 18 as he crossed the highway.

Troopers have not released the identity of the other driver.

Spokeswoman Megan Peters says no charges have been filed in the incident.

Toxicology tests for both drivers are pending.

Peters says the tests are routine after fatal accidents and not an indication that drugs or alcohol were a factor.
